Hva er en Rambutan?
Det er et mellomstort tropisk tre og tilhører familien Sapindaceae. Vitenskapelig kalt Nephelium lappaceum, refererer navnet rambutan også til den deilige frukten (som vi skal snakke om) dette treet produserer. Den er innfødt i den malaysiske-indonesiske regionen og visse andre regioner i Sørøst-Asia.
Også stavet rambotan, ramboutan, rambustan og ramboetan, frukten er nært beslektet med andre tropiske frukter som lychee, longan og mamoncillo. Faktisk betyr rambut på morsmålet hår. Dette er med referanse til de mange hårete fremspringene på frukten. På vietnamesisk kalles frukten chom chom (som betyr rotete hår), med henvisning til piggene som dekker huden.

Selv om frukten er liten, inneholder den en betydelig mengde vitamin C - et næringsstoff som øker immuniteten og skyller giftstoffer ut av kroppen din.
